“Pier Review” presented by the Tyler School of Art and Architecture
Presented by the Tyler School of Art and Architecture, Pier Review features selected works from local burgeoning artists working across diverse mediums. Informed by the exhibition location, Cherry Street Pier, and its surroundings, the exhibited work responds to its framework abstractly, architecturally, personally, and historically.
An architectural structure extending from land and out over the water, a pier simultaneously disrupts a landscape and demonstrates a type of reaching. Distance, dislocation, and disruption are central themes as the artists engage questions such as: How do histories of a place inform current lived experience? How does elemental decay or other exterior forces inform the identity of a place, of people? How do you measure distance? How do you measure closeness?
Organized by the interdisciplinary course, Leveraging the Weight of Material, Method, and Site at Tyler see this exhibition from December 3, 2021, through January 7, 2022. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Cherry Street Pier is open 7-days-a-week, rain or shine.
