Termite TV has always explored new visual language and approaches to understanding and reflecting on our current political, social, and cultural moments. The pandemic has opened a space for collective reflection on what it means to ‘return to normal’ and push boundaries for resisting and refining what we accept as guiding principles and norms in our lives.
This ‘moment,’ which we should now accept as life, calls us to consider the foundations we build and continue to uphold on personal, daily, and global levels. This collection of work steps into this portal of possibility – work that holds a mirror to our reality but allows us a crack to step through it.
The PORTALS exhibition includes screenings, video sculptures, installations, workshops, excerpts from the different seasons of Termite TV shows, life story stations, and live skyping with Termite TV members across the globe. More than 25 artists, including current and past members of the collective, have contributed to this celebration of 31 years of creative exploration.
Termite TV is funded in part by The Philadelphia Cultural Fund, The Independence Public Media Foundation, and individual donors.
