Free Workshop Weekend at Cherry Street Pier
Join us for a free workshop weekend on May 3 through May 5 featuring amazing workshops hosted by the Cherry Street Pier resident artists. All ages and skill levels are welcome. All workshops are FREE! No registration is required.
Unleash your inner artist at Cherry Street Pier! Did you know that many resident artists at Cherry Street Pier teach workshops? Sign up for a class where you can explore different mediums and techniques. Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned pro, we have something for everyone.
Featured artists include: Cassie Jones (Craft Coven), Bonnie MacAllister, GrioXArts, Walk Around Philadelphia, Thomcat23
Spaces are limited to 10-20 participants per workshop, and it’s a first-come, first-served, so be sure to arrive early. Workshop durations will vary. So if you find a workshop in full swing, enjoy our concession options until the next available slot.

Friday, May 3, 4 pm – 8 pm
2 workshop timeslots (4 pm and 6 pm)
- Interactive A/V Mixing with Termite TV (4 pm – 6 pm): Participate in an interactive workshop hosted by Termite TV.
- Blockprinting with the Craft Coven ( 6 pm – 8 pm): For up to 20 participants, learn printmaking techniques with the Craft Coven.
Saturday, May 4, 12 pm – 6 pm
3 workshop timeslots (12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm)
- Drawing class “May the Fourth Be with You” with Thomcat23 (12 pm – 2 pm): Learn to draw Star Wars-inspired androids with Thomcat23.
- Bonnie MacAllister Workshop Embroidery with Bonnie MacAllister (2 pm – 4 pm): For up to 20 participants, learn how to transfer a cell phone image into an embroidery portrait.
- Walk the City’s Edge: Cherry Street Pier to Graffiti Pier with Walk Around Philadelphia (4 pm): Cherry Street Pier program partner JJ Tiziou of Walk Around Philadelphia will lead a walk of a short segment of the Walk Around Philadelphia exploration of the city’s perimeter from Cherry Street Pier past Penn Treaty Park and towards Graffiti Pier, followed by a post-walk chat in the Pier Garden. This event is presented with the Jane’s Walk PHL events across the city May 3-5. This is a 2-3 hour / 5-6 mile experience. Register for free.
Sunday, May 5, 12 pm – 6 pm
3 workshop timeslots (12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm)
- Instant Film Basics with GrioXArts (12 pm – 2 pm): Learn the basics of instant film photography with GrioXArts (Studio 3). Receive hands-on experience with instant film cameras, learn about composition, and discover the magic of instant prints. Register for free.
- Watercolor Drawing with the Craft Coven (12 pm – 2 pm): For up to 20 participants, paint the Ben Franklin Bridge in watercolor.
- Perimeter-Map Printmaking Workshop with Walk Around Philadelphia (3 pm – 5 pm): Print a handmade letterpress map of the Philadelphia perimeter and Delaware River watershed with Walk Around Philadelphia organizer JJ Tiziou. Register for free.
